“It is through the arts, as creative and expressive mediums, that we bring both our great environments and our outlook on life into effective focus.” LAWREN HARRIS

National Parks Project: Gros Morne is a 43-minute film created from footage shot in Newfoundland’s Gros Morne National Park with acclaimed filmmaker and cinematographer Peter Mettler. Through the haunting marriage of image and sound, the film explores this awesome park’s many facets, from towering rock structures to pastoral meadows to the human traces that have been left to seep into its history.

"Our trip to Gros Morne was like a journey through time,” says Mettler. “As filmmakers we were there, graced with the technologies science has provided, to witness the foundation of nature under our precarious human advance."

NPP: GM features an improvised musical score by Andrew Whiteman (Apostle of Hustle) and Dale Morningstar, recorded at the Gas Station Studio on Toronto Island, as well as music from Belle Orchestre, Caribou, Wolf Parade and others.

National Parks Project: Gros Morne had its world premiere at the 2009 International Film Festival Rotterdam, and its Canadian premiere at the 2009 Calgary International Film Festival. It is an official selection of the 2009 Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, the 2010 Kingston Canadian Film Festival, and the 2010 Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, where it will have its Toronto premiere on May 3, 2010.

"(A) sublime audiovisual tribute to one of Atlantic Canada’s most beautiful regions… an audacious yet meditative celebration of the Canadian landscape." JASON ANDERSON, KINGSTON CANADIAN FILM FESTIVAL

"An imposing journey through time." INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL ROTTERDAM
